Le 4 avril 2018, il y aura 50 ans que Martin Luther King, Jr. a été assassiné sur le balcon du Lorraine Motel à Memphis par un tireur embusqué. Cet évènement a très bouleversé Elvis, ainsi que le meurtre de Robert Kennedy (6 juin 1968). L'histoire américaine était sur un tournant décisif. De son côté, Elvis était persuadé qu'il était venu à un point où il pouvait ajouter une chanson à contenance au répertoire du show qu'il allait faire à la télé. Ceci était bien contre le gré du Colonel Parker qui avait dans sa tête un show pour Noël dans lequel il voulait pour la finale une chanson de Noël. Mais Elvis restait sur sa position et "If I Can Dream" fut chanté à la fin du show. Regardez encore une fois la grandiose prestation d'Elvis qui a été regardée plus de 1.300.000 fois sur YouTube.
